BRAD DOBE
Our new Qld/NT Business Development manager, Brad Dobe, began his business life, quite accidentally at the age of 13.
He was a keen gymnast at his club on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, which was near his school. However, since he lived 30 kilometres away and his class wasn’t until the evening, when a junior coaching spot became available he offered to do it to fill in time. It provided pocket money and cemented his interest in fitness and gymnastics.
After school, Brad took a gap year and began attending a local gym with his brother. “Somehow, I am not quite sure how because I never filled out an application form, I began working there,” Brad recalls.
In the early days, he was a gymnastics instructor. He liked the work, stayed on and, as the industry developed, became a personal trainer and then a personal training manager.
“I was charged with building up the personal training side of the business and, as part of that, I was exposed to most aspects of the fitness business including sales and marketing and working on the front desk.”
Like many fitness professionals, there came a time when Brad realised he would have to get out to get on and, while maintaining his interest in fitness, he joined the sales force of an insurance company.
It is a competitive business. “Funnily enough, I found I was quite good at it and my sales figures were usually in the top ten percent of the 260 people working there.”
When the FFA PaySmart business development position became available it offered Brad the perfect opportunity to marry new skills with old ones.
“I knew the FFA PaySmart system well from previous jobs and admired the product. Now, I am really looking forward to getting out there and selling the benefits.”
Brad plans to meet all of the clients in Queensland and the Northern Territory over coming weeks to learn their individual needs, circumstances and preferences.
“I would also like to sign up a few gymnastic clubs. I think they would benefit from the FFA PaySmart products and I am the right bloke to talk to them.”
